2025 HMA Area 4 Board Elections

About the Board of Directors
Area 4, Handbell Musicians of America is led by an elected Board of Directors. Elections are held every two years (odd-numbered years) to select members of the Executive Committee.

Executive Committee Roles

  • Chair – Serves a six-year cycle: Chair-Elect → Chair → Past-Chair

  • Secretary – Two-year term; may be re-elected twice

  • Treasurer – Two-year term; may be re-elected twice

Election Process

  • Members in Area 4 vote every two years

  • Elections are open for at least two weeks

  • Results determine who will serve on the 2025–2027 Board of Directors

Meet the Candidates
Below are the nominees for the 2025–2027 HMA Area 4 Board of Directors.

Danny Lyons (Chair-Elect)

Danny Lyons is a solo handbell artist, handbell director, composer, and clinician, and he is the inventor of a method of playing 8-in-hand and has named it “Danny’s 8”. He has been directing and playing handbells for 35 years, and has been the director/ clinician at numerous handbell festivals, and has played solo handbell performances throughout the United States and abroad. Danny is the currently the handbell director at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Pensacola, and also continues performing on solo handbells, composing handbell music, and accepting teaching and directing positions nationally. He is now semi-retired from a 50 year career as a piano technician and rebuilder, and lives in Pensacola with his dogs — Nicky, a Golden Retriever, and Chess, a Goldendoodle 

Suzanne Holton (Secretary)

Suzanne Holton has served as Secretary of Area 4 for the past four years. She instituted the use of Shared Google Drives by the Board of Directors so that everyone has access to pertinent information without clogging email inboxes with extensive attachments. Her minutes of Board meetings are thorough and prepared in a timely manner. She began ringing handbells at her church over 30 years ago and continues to do so in addition to directing an intergenerational beginning handbell choir there. She also rings with The Atlanta Concert Ringers, a community handbell ensemble that is preparing to celebrate their 25th anniversary during the 2026-27 season.

Michael Lamb (Treasurer)

Michael Lamb has been a handbell director and ringer for more than 40 years.  In Springfield, Illinois, he was a church handbell director for 25 years and church music director for 10 years.  He founded the Bells In Motion community handbell ensemble and directed it for 15 years and has currently been the Music Director of the Suncoast Bronze Ringers since 2019.  As a ringer he has played in Virtuoso 5 times, Distinctly Bronze 10 times, and numerous Dream Team and All-Star groups.  

As an accountant, Michael has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois and was a former CPA with PricewaterhouseCoopers having recently retired. Michael is currently the Treasurer for Area 4 and was also the Area VIII Treasurer for 4 years when living in Illinois. 

As Treasurer, Michael’s main goal has been to provide clear and timely financial statements to the board and the Area and to accurately record all transactions.  He also feels it is important to look after the financial well-being of the Area and to make recommendations to the board to help keep the Area on sound financial footing for many years to come.  Michael is currently transitioning the Area’s books and records to Quickbooks Online where it will be easier for board members and future treasurers to access the Area’s financial records.
